You can't make me!

So we've been doing the potty training thing and we've actually gotten our 2-year-old to go pee pee in the potty (as Elmo says) a few times. I'm not sure if we just have had good timing or what, but the M&Ms are definitely helping! Although the past couple of days she has decided that when she doesn't want to sit on the potty she will refuse the M&Ms. It's funny because she sits there, but when we hand M&M's to her she will put them back into the container. It's like she's saying "You can make me sit here, but you can't make me enjoy it!"

We also got her a big girl bed a couple of days ago. She loves playing on it with her stuffed animals when it's not bedtime, but she has had a bit of trouble going to sleep in it. She'll lie down quietly until we leave the room, and then she won't stop yelling for us every few minutes until she's fallen asleep an hour or two later. I hope she gets used to her new bed soon. Luckily she hasn't figured out that she can get out of it herself yet LOL.

Last Chance for Drawing

This is your last chance to subscribe to my newsletter before I do the first quarterly drawing-- I will shoot for June 1st, so you have until the end of this month.

To subscribe to my monthly Enchanted Potions newsletter, which will enter your name into a quarterly drawing for a great-smelling gift, go to http://eepurl.com/6c3 and fill out the form. The optional questions about your address, favorite scents, etc will help me come up with promotions and to know what gift to send and where to send it if your name is drawn.

Potty Training

What a huge difference M&Ms make! A couple of days ago our lil one would cry if we had her sit on the potty. Now that we give her M&Ms while she's sitting there she acts like she's been doing it forever! We started using the letter treat (that's what we call it when she's around, since you can't really spell it out LOL) two days ago and already this morning she peed in the potty (I think it was lucky timing, but STILL...as Elmo says she put her pee pee in the potty!), and then this afternoon she pooped in the potty (actually she had a poopy pull-up and I think there was still a piece stuck to her butt that fell into the potty when she sat down, but STILL...it somewhat counts!). Our baby is growing up! *sniff*

Funny Things My 2-Year-Old Says

This morning my lil one looked toward the window where the sun was pouring in and got this big smile on her face. She said "Bubbles! Pop pop pop pop..." She kept poking her finger into the air when she said "pop". It took me a minute, but I finally figured out that she was talking about the dust floating around in the air.

She also has her own pronunciations for a lot of things:

boogum = cookie
meenaw = banana
mana = color(ing)
uh = drink (that came about because she lets out a satisfied "ah" with her breath after she drinks. She decided to add her voice to it to make it a word.

I'm just amazed every day with all the new stuff she learns and does. I feel like I didn't really have a purpose in my life until she was born. She is my sun and moon.

Goodbye Kiss

I had the funniest thing happen yesterday (which was Mother's Day). We went to my in-laws' house for lunch (my husband made DELICIOUS enchiladas!) and then went home to take a nap before the little one and I went to my parents'. My husband had to work yesterday evening, so while I was still snoozing on the couch he went upstairs to get ready for work. A little later he came downstairs, and soon after I heard him leave. I could not for the life of me understand why he didn't even say goodbye. I thought maybe he had thought I was sleeping and didn't want to bother me, but that just wasn't like him. I thought maybe he was annoyed with me or something. So when he got home that night I asked him why he didn't say goodbye when he left that afternoon. He told me DID say goodbye, and had given me a kiss, too! I thought I must have dozed off or something, but I had thought I was awake the whole time, even though I had my eyes closed. He said later, "Don't you remember saying 'It's so hard to take a nap around here!'?" I thought that sounded somewhat familiar. Then it hit me. Our dog had been bugging me and I kept having to push him away. One time he put his wet nose in my face and I pushed him away and said "It's so hard to take a nap around here!" Well I guess that wasn't our dog, but my husband kissing me! Luckily he has a good sense of humor. :)

Mother's Day

I woke up this morning to my daughter smiling into my face, patting my cheek, poking my eye, and saying "Hi Mimi!" (that's how she says Mommy) What a wonderful way to start Mother's Day! I just can't imagine what I did before I had her. She completes me.

Yo!!!!

My daughter LOVES Yo Gabba Gabba! She is constantly asking to watch the DVD ("dubba dubba dubba!") and her favorite toys are her little Yo Gabba Gabba plastic figures. She has her own names for them (Plex is "Whaaat") and she has different voices for them all. It's so funny! Her other favorite thing to do is color, and she is always asking us to draw the Yo Gabba Gabba guys in her coloring books.

If you haven't seen it, you should watch the episode with Jack Black. It's hilarious! I couldn't find a good clip on Youtube that showed all the funny stuff, but this behind-the-scenes video was great! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7aJigZVhM4

Let 'Em Cross

The other day I was on my way home from work and I saw a woman waiting to cross the street at a crosswalk. I stopped so she could cross, and apparently that pissed off the guy behind me because he was glued to my bumper until we got to a red light, where he proceeded to make angry gestures and swear at me until the light turned green and I went straight and he turned. What is wrong with people?

I've noticed around here that people seem to think that you don't have to stop for someone at a crosswalk unless they're in the middle of the street and you would hit them if you didn't stop. In that case, what do people think we have crosswalks for? I really think Iowa law is lacking in this department. I lived in California for a few years and there you are required to stop for someone waiting to cross at a crosswalk. Iowans are supposed to be friendly and courteous, but in this case California has us beat.

Maybe I just get angry about this stuff because I'm a mom now.

Okay, my rant is over.

I never thought I'd be doing this...

My first blog! Wow, what do I say? I guess I can say whatever the heck I want.

Hooray for underpants!

Okay, so I've been watching a little bit too much Elmo.

Speaking of Elmo, we've been watching Elmo's Potty Time with our two-year-old daughter lately and hoping the concept will sink in. She turned two a couple of months ago and it's about time to start potty training. I think the thought of it scares me more than it does her LOL. It's so easy to just let her go in her diaper and not to have to take her to the potty every half hour or whatever you do when you're training. I've heard everyone gives their kids M&Ms too. I gave her some M&Ms the other day and my husband protested, saying "those are for using the potty!" But I don't want to turn her into Pavlov's dog and have her start peeing every time she sees a piece of candy.

Hmmm that wasn't so hard.
